Summary: "Wonderful story and illustrations"

This is such a memorable book! I read it a thousand times over and would read it any child. Some of the reviews I have read indicate that it's great for children who are late bloomers. I believe that it is great for all children. It is important for all of us, late bloomers or not, to understand that everything happens in its own time. That is a lesson I think most adults still need to learn!

Summary: "Lived it and loved it"

I can remember distinctly finding this book in my 1st grade class room during free time. Ah back when school had that, I never owned it and my only contact with it was the various readings of it during that one year. It always stuck out in my memory though, something about it sort of rang true in me, was I a late bloomer? Well if I was it was ok, and I didn't have trouble reading, writing or interacting, however my parents were a little repressive on ideas and dreams and such. I never really had too much direction in that regard from them and idealogically anything they didn't agree with wasn't tolerated. Now that I am an adult with many of my own real experiences under my belt I finally feel like I am coming into my own and not being under their roof for sometime my ideas finally started having direction and my own personal philosophies and inquiries are abounding.
I wouldn't say conclusively but I just can't let go of the idea that this book helped me make it ok to not ask the questions that I had when they would've been squashed and repressed, that it's ok to be a late bloomer intellectually, that coming into your own thought process can take time. I know that isn't necessarily the direct correlation that the book provides but I must say that the metaphorical message is still in my memory to this day and only as I ventured out and took my own steps has it revealed it's relevance to my development. In my specific environment I know that it has been an amazing help to my own independent thought process and showed me that it was ok, that there is time to be who you are no matter how long it takes.
I certainly look forward to being able to share it with my child and be there with a positive account and real reinforcement that no matter what we are behind her 100% and that you cannot push the river, development happens of its own accord and it is ok for things to take time.

Summary: "A Reassuring Story of Patience and Parental Acceptance"

A reassuring story of patience and parental acceptance, cheerfully illustrated and told with simple and well-chosen words. Leo's father is worried because Leo doesn't have the skills that his friends do: he doesn't read, write, draw, or even speak. Leo's mother reassures him that in his own good time Leo will make it. And, in his own good time, he does. A nice story to read for the extra-precocious and those who take more time reaching milestones, because it emphasizes the importance of patience, and a recognition that each person possesses unique abilities which are expressed in different ways.

Summary: "My boys loved this book!"

C'mon people - really? Undiagnosed learning diabilities? Lazy dads? I don't see anything like that at all! Why do things have to be so complicated? having read this book at least a thousand times, it is memorized in my mind, and my boys' minds...the excitement of "then one day in his own good time LEO BLOOMED!" is just unparalleled....my boys' faces glowed with happiness every time we finished the book, and anticipation every time we opened the first page to read it. The drawings are colorful, the message sweet and to the point. Now my granddaughter is enjoying this well used, dog eared book too!

Summary: "A classic and comical story"

Leo the Late Bloomer was my favorite book growing up. Recently, my four year old niece found it at my mother's house. She read it to me and loved all the pictures and silly things Leo did. The illustrations in this book are beautiful and engaging for children. I just bought this from Amazon to share with my own daughter.
